The client was using a third-party solution to generate risk alerts for their clients based on relevant news data with which they had no ability to control or vet. They engaged Valent Partners to develop a solution not only that they could own, but also better addressed the potential risks for their customers’ supply chains.
Build cost-effective, scalable risk detection using Azure and open-source tools
Following a period of exploration for potential solutions, Valent leveraged an existing open-source news data ingestion platform to build out a cost-effective solution that fit the client’s needs.
- Idea – Create a solution that can replace the existing third-party solution in a cost-effective, non-intrusive, and performant way.
- Execution – Built out a pipeline for ingesting terabytes of event and news data coming in and built out a function app in Azure to filter and modify the data as needed.
- Leveraged Azure Synapse to build out a convenient data warehousing and analytics solution that was also compatible with existing company infrastructure.
- Engineered the core backend functionality using multiple components: Azure Synapse, Function applications, SQL Server, Data compression
- Design/Code/Test in discrete iterations, testing for performance and reiterating through feedback
- Product and project management
