Innovating products to simplify the insurance buying process

Tens of thousands of new policy binds with reduced training time for new agents
Streamlining the Insurance Buying Experience
A prominent Insurtech, recognized as one of the nation’s largest and fastest-growing personal lines insurance brokers, was seeking to build a streamlined Quote-to-Issue (QTI)experience. The objective was to empower their corporate and franchise agents to generate enhanced insurance quotes, accept many forms of payment, and issue a contract spanning a diverse array of insurance carriers and product lines. Their objective was to have a common user interface with a scalable and flexible application framework capable of seamlessly integrating with the disparate APIs of legacy insurance carriers. The goal was to support 50% of eligible policy volume by the conclusion of the initial year. Prior to implementation, they sought to ascertain the feasibility, determine the optimal approach, and forecast associated costs.
Strategy assessment, template architecture, phased implementation
- Valent Partners began by completing a strategy assessment of the Insurtech's current state, the competitive landscape, and desired future state architecture.
- A phased implementation plan and budget was developed to achieve the project’s year one objectives. The plan was approved by the Insurtech's Executive leadership team.
- A total of 10 differentCarrier/Line-of-Businesses (LOB) were prioritized for integration based on an assessment of their “QTI readiness” and contribution to the goal of reaching50% of eligible policy volume.
- Valent Partners provided a highly experienced team consisting of program management, enterprise architects, business analysts, and application/integration developers.
- The team held Agile methodology training sessions for the client teams. Standard Agile practices and ceremonies were implemented and formal project governance including steering committee meetings with the executive leadership team were scheduled.
- The team first designed and developed a core platform architecture that could present a unified user interface across the disparate Carrier/LOBs.
- The core platform architecture was built to easily accommodate the bespoke business and insurance rules required by each Carrier, LOB, and State combination. This includes custom fields, data translations, field dependencies, field validations, and error handling.
- An API translation layer was implemented to abstract each Carrier’s unique and complex API into a common format.
- Each QTI transaction is automatically synchronized with the Insurtech’s system of record (Salesforce)which saves significant time for each Agent and Quality Control.
- Each Carrier/LOB integration was broken into 4 phases: API Requirements Definition, IntegrationDevelopment, User Acceptance Testing, and Go-Live Warranty Period.
- Multiple teams consisting of business analysis, developers and QA testers were formed so severalCarrier/LOBs integrations could be completed simultaneously.
- The individual teams skillfully managed every step of the carrier integrations, from kick-off meeting to successful go-live. This included daily coordination with key contacts at each Carrier, overcoming technical challenges posed by the disparate APIs, and implementing complex business/insurance rules specific toCarrier/LOB/State.
Tens of thousands of new policy binds with reduced training time for new agents
- A proven, scalable and flexible architecture is in production which can support new and diverse Carrier/LOB integrations.
- Each of the available Carrier integrations were completed within the project’s original timeline and supporting the goal of 50% of eligible policy volume.
- Multiple revisions to the core platform architecture were made which has reduced the time/effort to develop new integrations by 50%.
- Insurtech was able to provide affirming progress updates on the QTI integrations during each of their quarterly earnings calls.
